Not Safe Enough!

The shrill blast of a whistle sounded in the distance. Crane booms were promptly swung aside and men walked off the Pennsylvania Railroad right-of-way. This was routine for the workers who were building an overpass in Philadelphia some years ago. The men watched for the express train which would come thundering by in about a minute. “If that whistleman ever misses his cue it’ll be too bad for us,” said one worker. But when tragedy struck it was not for lack of warning.

One day as the familiar whistle sounded and the men walked off the track, two men just stepped over to the adjoining track. It seemed safe enough. They watched a northbound freight move slowly toward them, it whistle screaming – but they were out of its way. It did seem like that train whistle and the roadbed vibration were more than usual. The two men never say the approaching Washington Express on the track where they were standing. It hurled them into eternity! They thought they were in a safe place; they were dead wrong.

The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12 NJKV). Many people realize some dangers and seek to live morally or religiously, trying to find favor in God’s eyes. This is only a step out of one danger into a false security, for our self-righteousness can never save us. There is only one place of safely, and that is Jesus Christ. Only His death on Calvary’s cross can save us from God’s wrath: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12)

Listen to God’s warning now! Accept Jesus as your Savior, before it is too late. –
