He was young, strong, and in business for himself. He was financially secure and looking at a successful future – or so he thought!
As a young man he had attended Sunday school and even memorized many Bible verses. He had heard that God loved him so much that He sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus, to die for his sins. But he had always put off accepting Him as His Savior, saying, “I have plenty of time. I’m too young and too busy to think about God and religion.”
Once when asked where he would go when he died, he admitted that he’d go to hell because he hadn’t asked Jesus Christ to forgive his sins and be his Savior. When asked if that scared him, he said, “Yes, but I have plenty of time. I’ll take care of that when I get older.”
One year later, his day started out like any other; but it didn’t end that way. While returning from work that night, he collided head-on with another car. Suddenly, the “plenty of time” he thought he had was gone. He never regained consciousness, and never again had the opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior.
Are you like this man, always putting off salvation? He knew that the Bible said that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). He also knew it said that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). He even understood that to receive this eternal life he needed only to confess Jesus as his Lord and believe in his heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
But he thought he had “plenty of time.” What do you think? Don’t put off trusting Christ as your Savior! “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
