The Coming of The Lord
The coming of the Lord is the most written about subject in the New Testament. The promise of His coming is for the comfort and encouragement of the saints.
1 Thes. 4:18.
We know that the next great event on God’s calendar is the coming of the Lord for his saints, and we would say ‘even so come Lord Jesus come’. “Yet a little while and he that shall come will come and will not tarry” (or delay) Heb. 10:37.1 Thes. 4:13-18 brings before us the coming of the Lord for us known as the rapture. But in Peter the emphasis is the Manifestation of Christ. Paul in his writing also stresses much of the appearing.
The day of display- When He comes to rule and reign, for dominion has been given to Him. Psm. 2;8; Rev.5; Rev.19.
His glory will cover the earth as the water covers the sea. Hab. 2:14.
He shall come to be glorified in his saints and admired in all them that believe.
2 Thes. 1:10
Peter presents the Lord and the coming of the Lord in such a way as to set their hearts right, to encourage and strengthen them.
He presents the public appearing of the Lord Jesus and how it should affect us now. He gives word of instruction in view of that time.
