Beholding the Glory of our Lord
Study 1
Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:1-3 - The glory of His person
- Eternal Son
- Heir of all things
- Maker of the worlds
- The brightness of God’s glory
- Express image of God’s Person
- Upholder of all things (by the word of His power)
- Seated on the Majesty on High
Response: The greatness of the Son - is in and through whom God has and is speaking. He is in the prophetic office and we should “give the more earnest heed” to what is said!
Study 2
Philippians 2:5-11; Heb 2:17 - Incarnation and Exaltation
- In the form of God
- No reputation
- Form of a servant
- Humbled Himself
- Likeness of men
- Obedient unto death (the Cross)
- Exalted Highly
- A Name above every Name
- Every knee will bow
- Every tongue confess
- He is Lord
Response: The humiliation and exaltation of Christ Jesus qualifies the Lord Jesus to fulfill a priestly role. (Heb 2:17). He is our example and model – “let this mind be in you”!
Study 3
Colossian 1:12-19 - Preeminent in all things
- Son of Father’s love
- Image of the invisible God
- Firstborn of every creature
- Maker of all things
- Reason for which all things were made
- Before all things
- Holds all things together
- Head of the body (the Church)
- The beginning
- Firstborn from the dead
- Preeminent
- All fullness dwells in Him
Response: We have been translated into the kingdom of the Son. The preeminent Son is Lord and King… We bow in awe, worship and humbled obedience!
